As an intentional community, Contemplatives in Action is rooted in our belief in a compassionate God, a God who chose to enter into the chaos of humanity, granted us the Son as our salvation and the Holy Spirit as our reminder of God’s presence with us, always. The Trinity is our example of perfect communion and perfect love.

Our community strives to live as women for others in imitation of Christ, and we model our community after that of the earliest Christians. We look to Acts 2:42-47 for inspiration and encouragement:

Many miracles and wonders were being done through the apostles, and everyone was filled with awe. All the believers continued together in close fellowship and shared their belongings with one another. They would sell their property and possessions, and distribute the money among all, according to what each one needed. Day after day they met as a group in the Temple, and they had their meals together in their homes, eating with glad and humble hearts, praising God, and enjoying the good will of all the people. And every day the Lord added to their group those who were being saved.

Our community believes that as people of faith, we have a responsibility to respond to the current situation of our brothers and sisters in New Orleans. In addition to its need for physical rebuilding and reconstruction, the city cries out for a renewal and resurrection of spirit. It is our own "close fellowship" that enables us to enter into the chaos of post-Katrina New Orleans.
