In an age when many contemplatives -- religious men and women -- focused their time and energy on prayer at the expense of those in need, Inigo de Loyola tended to the needs of the poor and the sick.  Moved by the celebration of the Eucharist, Inigo would gather people around him to explain Jesus’ actions and teachings as expressed through our Gospels.  These times were also spent teaching one another how to pray. And so, Ignatius and his companions found themselves in hospitals caring for the sick and teaching catechism to those who would listen.  Their lives, formed by prayer and contemplation, became lives in the service of others and in the care of souls.
